Comparing similarities and differences in the family name’s system and the role of clan in modern life in Vietnam and Korea, the authors come to a conclusion that Korean and Vietnamese family name system was affected by Chinese parentage counterpart that they have received since the early centuries. They are strongly aware of their origin and see it as an important moral support to prove themselves and clan in modern society, especially with the traditional elite families.
